Paul cautioned about those who bring destructive doctrines and divisions among the church. This is the same thing that other apostles talked and warned in their epistles.
Jude 1:16-19 [16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. 17 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. 19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.]
Peter in 2 Peter 2, spoke about the doom, depravity and deception of false teachers.
Paul greets those who are part of ministry and commend them. Then Paul spoke the promise of Lord Jesus Christ and the hope of future by these words. Romans 16:20,25 [And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly., 25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ]
Paul also have been in fellowship with all types of brothers and sisters in Christ irrespective of gender, social statuses [rich, government officials, poor and slaves]
Application:
Jesus spoke about the oneness among the disciples and those shows we are His disciples. We should always strive for unity among the brothers and sisters in Christ. [John 13:35 - By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." / John 17:20,21 - 20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.]
Jesus warned about deception in end times. We should have the Spirit of Lord to discern the truth. [Matthew 24:4 - And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.]
When Christ dwells in us, we will be established in His love, Ephesians 3:17 - So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love

Avoid Divisive Persons
17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord [d]Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. 19 For your obedience has become known to all. Paul asked us to show our love for others in previous verses
continue to that he warned about the people who make divisions and offenses
satan wants to remove the unity in the church and make Christians divisive
False preachers preach contrary to the doctrine of god i.e. wealth of this world
Matthew 7:15
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
if false doctrine was there just after Christ then how much do we have to be vigilant in our time?
false doctrines do the work for themselves and it is not the work of god, to gain fame or wealth
James 3:16-17
16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
we have to trust on gods wisdom to lead our lives in this world
gospel preached by Paul is the gospel of Christ
we need the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ to preach his gospel
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
our god is God of peace, he makes us unified not divisive
Application:
be wise in what is good, and what is evil in and around you
do not deceive and don't get deceived
-This is essential to God's purpose for the church. Truth without unity leads to pride; unity without truth leads to a departure from the true gospel itself. Each of these must be guarded against.
-The warning is necessary because these dividers and deceivers do not announce themselves. They use smooth words and flattering speech and always target the simple -- usually those who are young in the faith.
-Deceive the hearts of the simple: This shows that dividers and deceivers don't affect everyone. We must not wait until everyone is scattered or deceived until we are concerned with dividers and deceivers.
-Do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly: Dividers and deceivers never want to appear selfish. Typically, they perceive themselves as noble crusaders for a great cause. Nevertheless, however they may appear on the outside, their motives are essentially selfish and fleshly.
-Now to Him who is able: With all the dangers facing the Romans -- and every church -- Paul fittingly concludes by commending them to Him who is able to establish you. Paul also knows that this will be done according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ.
-Now that the mystery has been revealed through the preaching of the gospel, God calls all nations to obedience to the faith.
-To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever: In this conclusion Paul reflects on the wisdom of God's plan in the gospel and the fact that such wisdom is beyond man. God had a plan no man would come up with, but the wisdom and glory of the plan is evident.
APPLICATIONS
- Be wise in what is good: This is the best defense against dividers and deceivers. It is of far more use to know the good than it is to know the evil, to learn about the genuine rather than the counterfeit.
- We need to see and ask us What is the intention behind?
- we are worshipping a Jealous God and He will not entertain to deceive people in his church.
- We need to bring glory to GOD only.

Paul is good at commending / appreciating his fellow workers in Christ. No wonder why Paul can work with many co-workers inside the body of Christ.
Romans 12:18 - If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Also, Paul maintains very good relationship with the household of God. [Galatians 6:10 - Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.]
Paul is a man having the spirit of gratitude for those who helped him in ministries. [Romans 16:1-16] Listed so many people irrespective of their gender and nationality as some of them are Greeks. [she has been a helper of many and of myself also. Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine ]
Matthew 16:17 - Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
1 Peter 2:17 - Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. [ We should respect and give due honor to all men] All are created in the image of God.

Application:
No matter how much Lord use us in ministry, we should not fail to commend / appreciate / encourage fellow people in Christ.

OBSERVATIONS
-Paul certainly knew the value of what women could do in serving the church. Apparently, Phoebe was on her way to Rome and Paul sends an advance recommendation of this sister in Christ so the Romans will receive her and support her during her stay in their city.
-Priscilla and Aquila: This couple is mentioned in Acts as associates of Paul and helpers to Apollos. Apparently, they were now back in the city of Rome.
-The church that is in their house: This phrase gives us a clue to the organization of the early church. In a city with a Christian community of any size, there would be several "congregations" meeting in different houses, since there were no "church" buildings at this time. Each house church probably had its own "pastor."
-Epaenetus: This man is of note because he was apparently among the very first converts of Achaia (where Corinth was and where Paul wrote the letter to the Romans)
-Andronicus and Junia: These were apparently Jews (my kinsmen) and were imprisoned for the sake of the gospel (my fellow prisoners). They were well regarded among the apostles, having become Christians even before Paul did (sometime in the first 3 or 4 years after Pentecost).
-Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus
Rufus -This may be the same man mentioned as a son of Simon the Cyrene in Mark 15:21.
Nereus: In A.D. 95 two distinguished Romans were condemned for being Christians. The husband was executed and the wife was banished. The name of their chief servant was Nereus
-Asyncritus... Phlegon... Patrobas... Hermes: Of the rest of these names, Paul finds something wonderful to say about almost every one of them -- noting their labor, his special regard for them (beloved), their standing in the Lord
-Notice the women mentioned in this chapter: Phoebe, Priscilla, Mary, Tryphena, Tryphosa, the mother of Rufus, and Julia. These are women who worked for the Lord.
APPLICATIONS
- So there are distinctions and degrees in honor among believers, and these are graduated by the scale of service done. It is an honor to labor for Christ, it is a still greater honor to labor much.
-Paul recollected their names he sent them a message of love which has become embalmed in the Holy Scriptures.

we have to receive everyone in the lord, in Christ, in spirit
Paul considered everyone in Christ, embracing the people who helped him in his ministry,
Paul mentioned them throughout his letters,
my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, fellow workers, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, our faithful and dear brother,
who is one of you. he comes to you, welcome him
Paul is urging the love of Christ, accepting others to spread the gospel of Christ
we need to assist them in whatever they need, it may be a need for them
many Christians risk their life for Christ and ministers. Paul mentions them as labored troubled sentenced
if they trust in god then god trust in us to take of his ministers
That why churches have grown among Gentiles than Jews
1 Peter
5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
"God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble."[a]
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Paul recognizes the elders ... who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. Paul did nt boast himself.
Paul showed his love towards them as they loved him in his ministry journey
when we support them they can do their ministry more efficiently
even though they are strong in spirit they are also part of this world. They may have their troubles and weaknesses
we have to help them and strengthen them with our prayers and support
2 Corinthians 13:10-12
10 This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority--the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down.
11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

god wants us to greet/treat others with love, truthfully, genuine
Application:
we have to receive everyone in the love of Christ
we all are fellow workers in God's work, respect each other
we need to pray, help, support the ministers of god in all the ways we can

Paul don't want to establish church where other disciples have been working and evangelizing. That is the reason why he hasn't been to Rome.
Romans 15:20,22 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation,...22 For this reason I also have been much hindered from coming to you.
We are indebted to jews on material blessings. He brought gifts from all churches to Jerusalem [Acts 24:17 "Now after many years I came to bring alms and offerings to my nation,] as mentioned in Romans 15:26 - For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem.
Paul wants to come to Rome now and asked the church to pray for him and asked the will of God to be done through him in Rome. [ Romans 15:30,32 - 30 Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me 33 that I may come to you with joy by the will of God and may be refreshed together with you.]
Application:
Paul doesn't want to build church on other people's effort. He wants to begot church by the help of Holy Spirit so he can be a father / mother to his spiritual children. [ 1 Corinthians 4:15 - For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, I have begotten you through the gospel.]
Paul was fair in asking the church who received spiritual benefits to provide for material needs. [ 1 Corinthians 9:11 - If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things?]
Irrespective of our desires, let the will of God be done in our lives and in ministry. [James 4:14,15 - whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that."]

Observation:
Christians in Jerusalem were in poverty, Paul wanted to collect contributions for those who were in need. Macedonia and Achaia to make a contribution to the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem
Matthew 6:1-3
6 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
gospel came out of Jerusalem, so Paul thinks Jerusalem can be blessed by Gentiles with their materials
preach the gospel through the love of the holy Spirit. strive together in prayers for the gospel of god
Philippians 1:27
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel
we will receive the blessing of the gospel of Christ., which is the truth, the love of god
Application:
Help the needy Christian brothers and sisters
we have to support the gospel of god with materials
we need to pray for the protection of God's servants
