Qualities Needed in Trials
19 [c]So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Doers--Not Hearers Only
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and [d]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

26 If anyone [e]among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

OBSERVATIONS:
-Much of our anger and wrath comes from being self-centered and not others-centered.Swift to hear is a way to be others-centered. Slow to speak is a way to be others-centered.
-Our wrath almost always simply defends or promotes our own agenda.our wrath does not accomplish the righteousness of God.
-All filthiness and overflow of wickedness: This has in mind an impure manner of living. In light of the nature of temptation and the goodness of God, we are to lay aside all impurity, putting them far from us.
-Here James alluded to the spiritual power of the word of God. When it is implanted in the human heart, it is able to save your souls. The word of God carries the power of God
-We must receive God's word as doers, not merely hearers. To take comfort in the fact you have heard God's word when you haven't done it is to deceive yourself.
-The person who only hears God's word without doing it has the same sense and stability as a man who looks into a mirror and immediately forgets what he saw. The information he received did not do any good in his life.
-James used it here of someone who is religious, but is not really right with God, and this is evident because he does not bridle his tongue.
-Your walk with God is useless if it does not translate into the way you live and the way you treat others. Many are deceived in their own heart regarding the reality of their walk with God.

APPLICATIONS
-We must swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath day by day
-Word of God should be implanted in our heart
-We should be Doers of Word of God instead listener
-If we are not doers of word of God then we will get deceived.
-We should be in a position to stand in front of God undefiled.

SCRIPTURE

James 1:19-27 [Doers of Word]

Observation:
1) We should be the listeners rather than the one who is quick to speak (Proverbs 17:28, 29:20 - There is more hope for a fool than a man who is hasty in his words / Even a fool is considered wise when he shuts his lips and holds his peace)

2) The one who practice such things like hatred, contentions (heated disagreement), outburst of wrath (uncontrolled anger) will not inherit the kingdom of word (Galatians 5:21,21) . Also the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

3) We should be guided by the Living word who is the Christ himself. In these last days God has spoken to us by His son and His Spirit will remind us the teachings of Christ. We should be obedient to do His word. The one who is the doer of the word will prosper in whatever He does.

4) Undefiled religion is to love those who needed that most even the unlovable. Be merciful, just as our Father God also is merciful.
Matthew 25:44-46, Then Righteous also will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?' 45 Then He will answer them, saying, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.' 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Application:
1) Let our speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that we may know how we ought to answer each one. [Colossians 4:6]

2) We ought to be walk in Spirit to produce the fruits of Spirit like kindness, gentleness, and self-control.

3) The one who hears the word of Christ and do them are like the wise man who build his house on the rock. the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. [Matthew 7:24:27]

4) Jesus has overcome the world [worldly system and its desires] and has given us encouragement to overcome that by His Spirit.
